Climbing Triangle and Slide | Digital Plans
Make this Climbing Triangle and Slide using these easy to follow plans. The Climbing Triangle was developed by Hungarian paediatrician Dr. Emmi Pikler over 100 years ago. She believed kids should explore the climbing triangle on their own terms. If they can climb it, they should be able to do so freely (although always with supervision).
It can be used for children as young as 6 months to roughly 4 years old. The Climbing Triangle allows children to learn their on boundaries in their own time. The point of the triangle is that it doesn’t need to be adjusted as your child grows because it works as the foundation on which they reach with their developmental milestones. For example, babies can first play beneath it. Once they’re ready they can use it to pull themselves up, then proceed to climb the structure. They use their imagination and learn new skills.
Great care and research has gone into the design of this Climbing Triangle. An important factor is size; too big is unsuitable for younger children and too small is not engaging for older children. This triangle is designed to be somewhere in the middle, so it can get the most use. It measures approximately:
Height x Length x Width
34″ x 34″ x 40″
85cm x 85cm x 101cm
Another important factor is the ease of folding and crucially a self locking leg design. Our design opens and creates an interference connection that is very strong. There is a locking thumbscrew that keeps it safe, but importantly this is not structural. This makes our design a compact fold, easy to unfold and very strong. The slide for this project, is also compatible with our Kids Bed Project, why not build your child the complete set.
These simple to follow step-by-step plans contain 19 highly illustrated steps to make this Climbing Triangle. As well as separate plans to make the slide (10 steps).

- What if I can’t get the same dimension lumber?
We understand that finding the same size lumber can be difficult at times. Unfortunately, lumber sizing tends to vary from country to country and even from store to store. To cope with this, we try to build in wiggle room to our plans wherever possible.
Please read the ‘Materials Required’ section carefully. We try to specify if a dimension is critical or if you can substitute for something close.
Also please read the entire manual before ordering any materials, once you have a good idea of the process, it should all become clear how you might be able to tweak things to suit.
